Camille Herron Statement: Standing for Integrity in Ultrarunning
In the summer of 2024, I whistleblew to the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) and other organizations, raising legitimate and well-supported concerns about rule violations in the sport that breached World Athletics competition rules. The IAU validated my concerns twice—while also reaffirming that I continue to hold the IAU World Record/Best for both 48 Hours and 6 Days, as confirmed HERE.
I deeply care about upholding the integrity of the sport and ensuring fairness, respect, and good sportsmanship for all athletes.
In response, I faced retaliation last fall—including false, unfounded, and damaging claims and narratives spread in the media and across social media platforms. I have not been interviewed for any of the media stories that spread these misrepresentations. I am unable address the situation right now for reasons beyond my control. These narratives do not reflect the truth, the facts, or my personal character and values.
In September 2024, my husband and coach, Conor Holt, released a statement: LINK
In February 2025, I released the statement shared below.
While the situation is being addressed privately, I remain committed to advocating for integrity, fairness, and equality in sport. I also stand with other athletes who share these values. I have dedicated my career to celebrating and supporting athletes who compete fairly. For example, I was proud to publicly celebrate Miho Nakata when she broke my 24Hr World Record— because that’s what fairness and good sportsmanship look like. Integrity is everything!
I also fully support establishing safer and more confidential ways for Mountain/Ultra/Trail athletes to raise legitimate concerns—such as the new reporting mechanism recently created following my outreach to the IAU Athletes’ Commission:
IAU Athletes’ Commission Announcement
I’m incredibly grateful to those who have stood by me with kindness, encouragement, and strength during this time. Your support has meant everything! Thank you to everyone for your continued patience and understanding at this time.
